Fake Yoshis are Shy Guys duplicating into Yoshis and Baby Mario. You can control them but if you put them into a spike pit then it will turn into a Shy Guy.
This creates one of the most popular minigames known to fans in the Yoshi series. The concept of playing as multiple Yoshis, even temporarily, is very appealing.
