Spike Tops are a type of Buzzy Beetle that possess red shells and also have a single spike on it. They are also immune to fireballs as their shell is also fireproof. Spike Tops possess the ability to walk along walls, roofs, and floors from any angle. The only way to defeat a Spike Top is with either a Starman, Cape Spin, or a Shell. Yoshi can also eat a Spike Top and iceballs can also freeze them. Spike Tops are essentially a combination of the Buzzy Beetle and the Spiny.
Super Mario World
Spike Tops make their debut in Super Mario World as the tougher combination of Spinies and Buzzy Beetles, immune to both jumps and fireballs. Spike Tops also possess the ability to walk along walls and ceilings as well as crawling along vertical and upside-down surfaces. They can be defeated with either a Starman, a Cape Spin, a Shell, or being swallowed by Yoshi.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Spike Tops return in New Super Mario Bros. Wii behaving the same as they did previously. In this game, they are commonly found in caverns. They can be defeated with a Starman, or other non-fire projectiles.
